What to Expect

Here is a glimpse into what is included in the Ghana Homecoming ’24 schedule of events.

Thursday, December 26

Depart Washington, D.C. at 6:05 pm EDT aboard United Airlines’ exclusive non-stop 787 Dreamliner service to Accra.

Friday, December 27

Arrive in Accra. Check-in at hotel. Homecoming Opening Circle (Welcome Orientation Meeting).

Saturday, December 28

Accra city tour and/or sightseeing and shopping on your own. Lunch at Afrikiko, a popular spot in the center of town,
serving a variety of local and international food.

Sunday, December 29

Free day. Optional shopping, attend church,cooking class, city tour, lunch, and meet-ups.

Monday, December 30

Depart Accra for Cape Coast. Tour Elmina Castle.
Traditional lunch at a local restaurant.

Tuesday, December 31

Ghana Homecoming ’24 New Year’s Eve Extravaganza at SkyBar25.

Wednesday, January 1

Depart for Naming Ceremony.

Thursday, January 2

Free morning. New Year Celebration Pool Party.

Friday, January 3

Visit Nkyinkyim Museum & Art Installation Park.

Saturday, January 4

Free day. Optional shopping, city tour, lunch and meetups.
Farewell Beach Party.

Sunday, January 5

Homecoming Closing Circle. Depart Accra for Washington DC Arrive in the morning of January 6.​

Ghana Homecoming Experience

$7,800

The Homecoming '24 fee includes:

  • Roundtrip economy-class travel between Washington, D.C., and Accra, Ghana

  • What is the fee schedule: April 19, 2024 – $1,600 (non-refundable deposit)​; May 17, 2024 – $2,400​; June 21, 2024 – $1,400; ​July 19, 2024 – $1,200​; August 16, 2024 – $1,200.
  • What are the flight details? We will be departing on United Airlines UA 996 from Washington Dulles Airport (IAD) on December 26, 2024, arriving December 27, 2024, in Accra (ACC). We will be returning on United Airlines UA 997 from Accra, Ghana, (ACC) on January 5, 2025, arriving January 6, 2025 at Washington Dulles Airport (IAD).
  • What attractions will we get to see? Here is a list of attractions we typically plan to visit: National Museum of Ghana, DuBois/Garvey Centres, Jamestown Settlement, Kwame Nkrumah Museum & Monument, The Art Centre, Elmina Castle, Nkyinkyim Museum and Art Installation Park.
  • What is the refund and cancellation policy? If you cancel 90 days before September 26, 2024, you will receive a full refund minus your $1,600 deposit. If you cancel 60 days before September 26, 2024, you will receive a 50% refund of payments made minus your $1,600 deposit. If you cancel 30 days or less before the September 26, 2024, scheduled departure, no refund will be granted.
  • What does the medical insurance cover? The participant medical insurance covers the following: Out-patient consultation, 48-hour admissions, Prescription refill for chronic medication, Minor procedures, Wound dressing, Suturing, Emergency transfer services (ground to ground), 24/7 on-call family physician, 24/7 teleconsultation, Medical concierge, On-site COVID testing in Ghana 24 hours pre-travel.
  • What are the COVID-19 guidelines? UPDATE: May 22, 2023 - According to information provided by authorities, all COVID-19-related entry restrictions were lifted on May 20. Individuals traveling to Ghana are no longer required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test result, and regular entry regulations now apply. The mask mandate at airports and during flights has also been dropped.
